Deer Valley Resort®, owned by Alterra Mountain Company, and Extell, the developer of Mayflower Mountain Resort, have teamed up and announced “the largest ski resort expansion in ski resort history”. The Mayflower mountainside offers 4,700 skiable acres of mostly north-facing ski terrain. The new base area and ski village has been named Deer Valley East Village. Under this long-term operating agreement, East Village will be fully integrated into the Deer Valley experience and brand.
This expansion will almost double Deer Valley’s skiable terrain, with plans to add 16 new lifts, approximately 130 ski runs, four on-mountain restaurants, and a new 10-passenger gondola. The entire project is expected to be completed over approximately three ski seasons. The Grand Hyatt is nearing completion and will open in the fall of 2024. The developers aim to have one new lift operational for the 2024/2025 ski season, primarily to connect hotel guests and owners to the famous Deer Valley slopes. A significant portion of the new lifts and trails are anticipated to open as early as the 2025/2026.
Upon completion, Deer Valley® will boast 5,726 acres of skier-only terrain, positioning it alongside Park City Mountain Resort, which offers 7,300 acres. Proposed are also Nordic tracks up in the Brighton Estates area. In anticipation of the 2030/2034 Winter Olympics which could potentially be held in Utah, Extell is hoping for the majority of infrastructure and village build-out to be completed by then. 3,100 acres of ski acres have a conservation easement which will be overseen by Utah Open Lands. This effort aims to connect trails in the Bonanza Flats area with those in Wasatch Mountain State Park, creating over 50 miles of trails.
Rumors mention possible connections to Silver Lake Village and Snow Park is being discussed as well.
