Canyons Ski Resort opens its doors after a big makeover tomorrow, December 10 2010.
The Canyons Resort which was purchased by Talisker two years ago is ready to unveil the first steps of the largest re-creation plan for a ski resort in 20 years. These first steps include moving the Red Pine Gondola closer to the Sundial Lodge. This will be more convenient for guests coming up the cabriolet. In front of the Grand Summit they have added a new lift – the Orange Bubble Express. The bubble seats offer more protection on very cold and snowy days. They also have heated seats.
In addition to the new lifts guests who visit this season will have an entirely new experience of the resort. They expanded the terrain on Iron Mountain by 400 acres, added an exciting ski beach with sun lounges, fire pits and food kiosks, as well as a massive new 1.1 mile long terrain park with 50 plus features.
As I drove by today, they were still working hard to provide a great opening day tomorrow. However, there will still be some construction over the next few weeks. The Canyons received 67 inches of snow so far this season and we certainly hope for more very soon.
Overall, Canyons now offers over 4,000 acres of exceptional skiing and snowboarding terrain, 182 trails, 5 world-class lodging properties including 35,000 square feet of flexible meeting space and a variety of dining options. And the best of it all, it is only a short 30 minute drive from Salt Lake City International Airport.
They have also broken ground for an 18 hole golf course this year. Once the golf course is completed in 2012 Canyons will be a great all season mountain destination.
